  • Come and Take it
  • There was 18 total Texans in town. The immigrants adjusted by learning new languages, formed schools of their own, and had more close trading ties.
  • In 1835, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, president at the time, called himself dictator after overthrowing the constitution. Then ordered Mexicans to disarm the Texans.
  • In the Battle of Gonzales, the first shot fired that started the battle was a little canon with artillery inside. The signifigance was the famous saying,  "Come and Take it"
  • In 1835, a volunteered group of soldiers were guarding the  Alamo. On February 23, 1836, a mexican force including about a thousand began a siege by following their leader. Texans outnumbered, they managed to hide out for 13 days before overpowered. This showed heroic resistance.
  • The Battle of San Jacinto only lasted under 20 minutes. Mexico would not regain what they had lost. Then, Santa Anna divided forces into threes.
  • Texas entered into Statehood on December 29, 1845. The problems involved slavery and political issues.
