  • Exposition
  • Narrator, Nick Carraway, is back from World War I. Nick rents a small house in West Egg, across the bay from his cousin, Daisy. Nick has a mysterious named Gatsby.
  • Setting: 1920's New York City
  • Everybody wants something they can't have. Gatsby wants Daisy. Tom wants a wife and a mistress who know nothing of the other.
  • Conflict
  • The Great Gatsby By: F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • Rising Action
  • Tom takes an instant disliking to Gatsby, even before he knows of Daisy weeping over Gatsby's expensive shirts.
  • Jay Gatsby is a Mysterious man who lives in the mansion next to Nick's house. Gatsby throws extravagant parties in hopes his true love will show, Daisy.
  • Tom and Gatsby have a tense showdown about who gets to control Daisy. In winning, Tom seals his victory by letting them drive home together. Daisy was going too fast and failed to stop, hitting and killing Myrtle, Tom's mistress.
  • Climax
  • STOP
  • Gatsby takes the blame for killing Myrtle. Wilson, Myrtle's husband, kills Gatsby and then himself. Nick is depressed and heart broken. Daisy forgets the whole thing even happened.
