Native Knowledge Box
European Exploration Box
English Colonization Box
The first people to encounter the Europeans were the Mississippians. They were the most advanced out of all the other tribes, but they didn't stand a chance against the diseases the Europeans brought over along with their iron and steel weapons. Mainly because the natives used bows and arrows and spears.
Hernando De Soto was the first European to explore Georgia. He went in search of riches and gold. When the Europeans and the Natives "mixed" the Europeans slaughtered them.
The English controlled the coast, but they made Georgia a buffer (or no mans land) to protect their colonies. The reason these colonies thrived is because they had tobacco which was a cash crop. They also worked off of a mercantilism economy which means that they export more than they import.
