The mayor and the aldermen of the next generation gave Miss Emily some mails and letters about the tax, but she did not replied to them. Later on they decided to make a Board of Aldermen in order to go to her house. Once they get to talk with Miss Emily, she said that she had no taxes and went to prove it.
After her father died, people came prepared to call at the house and help her get rid of the body, but she wanted to stay with him. So, the minister and doctor tried to convince her to give them the body and bury it, which they succeeded.
She visited the druggist to buy the best rat poison he has called arsenic. Then, she left him alongside with Toby who was carrying the package of rat poison. After that, the druggist leaves the area and never comes back.
After she bought the rat poison, the people thought she was going to committ suicide, but they were wrong. Later, Miss Emily meets Homer Barron and they thought that he was going to marry her, but it was also a mistake.
Too many years later, Miss Emily started getting older and her hair has turned grayer, plus, she had grown fat. Sooner, she was found dead because she fell inside the dusty house without even knowing that she was sick. This gives a thought that she might have drank one of the rat poisons she bought a long time ago.
The people from Jefferson came to Miss Emily's funeral. They seem to have respect for her, putting flower on the tombstone, old men dressed in uniform, ect. All of this because of how a sad woman she was.
