I am awesome.
Hi, my name is Patrick Ryan and I am from Ireland in the 1845. I am 14 years old I am making the journey to America with my Father and brother to have a better life.
Our home has been struck by The Potato Famine of 1840. It has come to the point that we have to leave our home in order to live.
My father, brother and I had just enough money to trave on American ships.
We left by boat to America. We brought just enough clothes to get started in America.
The food on this ship is better than the ships traveling to Canada where many died before reaching land.
My experience has been bad. I keep getting sea sick and stomach aches.
I am glad my family had enough money for this ship. The trip is still pretty bad, but not as bad as the "coffin ships" going to Canada.
We have reached America. We recognize that a lot of Americans want nothing to do with us.
We established our new home in the Ghetto. All the people here were Irish Catholics. We helped each other out to get started. The Ghettos were hard. We saw dirt roads, beat up houses and two boys in raggedy clothes playing soccer. This place looked way worse than the other houses in New York, NY. People looked sick, and crime was high.
