  • This location is affecting how Grover acts towards the driver in the truck. He is angry they are treating the animals badly.

  • This setting hides Percy from the evil spirit in the pit, and he learns about the creature's nickname, as well as some of his plans
  • Percy and his friends look around for a place to go after the truck incident, and happen to find the Lotus Casino which leads to the main conflict of the chapter of escaping.
  • The room in the Lotus Casino makes Percy and his friends stay longer than they should and almost miss the deadline of the summer solstice.
  • This location alerts Percy there is conflict with Zeus since it is lightning outside, and the newspaper tells him he only has a day to complete the quest.
