Fortunato has insulted the narrator so much for the narrator to get revenge on him some how .
The narrator is meeting fortunato at the carnival to have him come to his house to try a wine, that he thinks is fake so he wants him to try it, (for revenge).
Now that they are home and no one is home , he brings him down a long flight of stairs to the catacombs where the wine is at the end of the tunnel.
You should of listened
As walking down the tunnel all of the bones and death around him. The narrator asked him if he wants to go back many times but he refuses.
The narrator and fortunato finally reach the end of the catacombs, when the narrator chained up Fortunato to the wall and keeps him there.
Finally, the narrator walks away as Fortunato struggles to free himself. The narrator sits upon the bones knowing no mortal will ever come down into the catacombs.
