"Depression and Sadness" The Catcher in the Rye
Hi, I'm Holden Caulfield and if you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth
Scene 1: After Holden gets beat-up by Maurice
What I really felt like doing, though, was committing suicide. I felt like jumping out the window.
Holden has been through a lot and he tries to ignore it, but he can't when he feels depressed or sad. This shows that Holden expresses his ways of depression even if it isn't for the best of himself.
During this scene of the novel, Holden was with Sunny and he wants to talk and after she left, Maurice comes in and asks that he didn't pay the extra $5 and it made Holden mad, him and Maurice start fighting with each other and after they leave, Holden talks about how he wanted to commit suicide.
