Even as a child John Lewis showed sparks of his progressive and activist ways but instead of working for his people he started with the chickens on his parents farm. His first protests were protests against eating the chickens which he felt he knew individually.
Even as a boy Lewis valued education, his father was against him going to school because he wanted Lewis to stay home and work with him on the farm. Instead of staying with his father Lewis would wait for the school bus to come to his house and sneak onto it in order to go to school.
As he started getting older John Lewis started seeing more and more racial injustices that the black communities not just in the South were going through but all across the country and he started feeling more and more that he needed to do something about it.
