Odysseus return home to Ithica where he meets the goddess Athena. She warns him that his palace is overrun by more than 100 suitors who, believing Odysseus is dead, want to marry Penelope and take over his fortune.
Athena tells Odysseus to disguise himself as a beggar.
Penelope is a caring woman that misses her husband that hasn’t been seen in 20 years. She is going to hold a contest. Who ever wins the contest gets to be her new husband. She doesn’t want anyone else other then Odysseus..
Telemechus is the true son of Odysseus and supports him. He is also very brave.
The most arrogant of Penelope’s suitors. Antinous leads the campaign to have Telemachus killed. Unlike the other suitors, he is never portrayed sympathetically, and he is the first to die when Odysseus returns.
Eurymechus A manipulative, deceitful suitor. Eurymachus’s charisma and duplicity allow him to exert some influence over the other suitors.
Eumaeus and Philoetius - Both of these men are loyal servants that work in the palace of Penelope and Odysseus. They pray to the Gods to bring O back.
