I've been taking guaifenesin and it's not working! I'm still coughing!!
I understand you must be frustrated however that drug is an expectorant and is going to make you cough. It loosens and thins the respiratory secretions.
I can not work with this cough. Is there something else that will help me stop coughing?
Yes there is! An antitussive such as codeine will help with your cough.
Unfortunately I have an allergy to codeine. Are there any other options?
This drug may also cause dizziness drowsiness or nausea. Besure to let the doctor know if these occur so he can try to find a better solution!
Yes! I suggest you try dextromethorphan. It works by suppressing the cough reflex through direct action on the cough center just like codeine to suppress the coughing and it won't trigger your allergy.
