Storyboard Text

  • So, it looks like somebody stole some money from the locker room.
  • Who would do that??
  • Why do you all think somebody would do something like that?
  • I would still feel bad!! Even if nobody was around!
  • Maybe nobody was around so they didn't feel bad?
  • You think you would feel guilty? It actually is probably a good time to talk about shame and guilt!
  • Hey! Aren't they the same thing?
  • Actually no! This guy named Daniel Fessler talks about how shame and guilt culture are actually two different things
  • What's the difference???
  • In a shame culture, kids are taught not to do bad things because they are afraid people will shame or ostracize them
  • Well in guilt culture kids are taught to have internal, unpleasurable guilt, and hold themselves to a high standard so they don't have to feel guilty.
  • That's a great question!
  • So in a shame culture a person wouldn't feel bad about taking money if nobody saw them?
