Storyboard Text

  • The Ultimate Boon:
  • We did it Gabe. Now lets go!
  • Refusal of the Return:
  • I'm glad I left, or else I would have starved a lot worse.
  • Magic Flight:
  • My memories are beginning to fade, I just need at least one more for Gabe.
  • Jonas leaves his community and takes Gabe with him. "But it was necessary because it had the children seat attached to the back."(Lowry 208).
  • Rescue from Without:
  •     Jonas's refusal to return was to the community because leaving was a better choice rather than staying and starving of diversity. "His thoughts continued. If he had stayed, he would have starved in other ways. He would have lived a life hungry for feelings, for color, for love." (Lowry 218
  • The Crossing or Return Threshold:
  • Jonas cut all of his ties off with the community and to his destination.  " The memories had fallen behind him now, escaping from his protection to return to the people of his community. Were there any left at all?" (Lowry 221).
  • (Inferred scene)
  • Jonas found the sled and he knew at the bottom that he had reached his  journey's end. "He settled himself on the sled and hugged Gabe close. The hill was steep but the snow was powdery and soft, and he knew that this time there would be no ice, no fall, no pain. Inside his freezing body, his heart surged with hope." (Lowry 224).
  • "We're almost there, Gabriel, I remember this, Gabe."
  • Jonas and Gabe reached their stop and heard music and lights and had felt love for the first time."He forced his eyes open as they went downward, downward, sliding, and all at once he could see lights, and he recognized them now. He knew they were shining through the windows of rooms, that they were the red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees in places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love." (Lowry 225).
  • There's so much life here!
  • In this scene, Jonas has reached the place of freedom and is holding onto Gabe while exploring the new town which will be his new home.
  • Wow, this place is amazing!
