The Giving Tree By: Shel Silverstein
Once there was a tree and she loved a little boy very much. Every day the boy would come...
You're never going to find me!
Ready or not, here I come!
...and he would gather her leaves, climb her trunk, swing from her branches, eat apples, play hide-and-seek, and sleep in her shade. This made the tree very happy.
Time passed, and the boy grew older. He went to the tree and told her he needed a house to support a family, so the tree told him to cut her branches and build a house. So he did...and the tree was happy.
More time passed and the man came back and told the tree that he wished he had a boat to take him far away. the tree told him to cut down her trunk and build a boat. So he did...and the tree was happy.
After a long time the boy came back a weary old man and told the tree that he would like nothing more except a quiet place to sit and rest. The tree said he could sit on her stump and take a rest. And the boy did. And the tree was happy.
