  • Introduction
  • Settling 
  • The Aztecs originated in Aztlan where they roamed around. They then settled to the Valley of Mexico. The Aztecs worked as soldiers in different cities states around the Valley of Mexico. They were considered barbaric by other people in the valley. After a few decades, they eventually serving as mercenaries for a city state called Azcapotzalco.
  • Aztec History
  • The Aztecs founded their capital city in the valley of Mexico and the capital city that ran the large empire was called Tenochtitlan. It was located on an island in lake Texcoco. The place was ideal because of the lakes and forests filled with wildlife.  
  • Introduction
  • The land that the Aztecs settled on was not very pleasing. It was swampy not very big. The Aztecs modified their land t make it easier for them to live. For example they created chinampas, a technique used to farm from the soil under the lake. They also created roadways and canals that stretched to the mainland.
  • Settling
  • Nomadic Aztecs were told by priests that they would build a capital where they found a symbol from the gods. The symbol was an eagle perched on top of a cactus, which the people found. The people settled on that small island in Lake Texcoco near Azcapotzalco.
  • The Aztecs called themselves Mexica, which influenced the name for the country Mexico. The tribe rose to power very and hoped to create a better history for themselves.
