Winston and Julia meet in some bushes, so they can be away from telescreens and hidden microphones. Winston asks Julia if she has ever had sex before Julia says she has done it many times with other party members. Winston and Julia fall asleep together.
Winston and Julia continue to meet. Julia tells Winston that she is twenty-six years old, and that she lives with thirty other woman. She also tells him that she is not interested in an rebellion. Winston tells Julia that he had a walk with his wife and thought about pushing her off the cliff. Julia is confused.
Winston rents the upstairs room of Mr. Charrington junk shop to spend time with Julia. When they wake up Julia sees a rat and Winston tells her that it is his greatest fear.
Syme disappears just like Winston thought. Winston keeps thinking about his wife dying so he could marry Julia. Winston and Julia speak about the Brotherhood and politics. Winston gets upset with Julia because of her selfishness.
O'Brien talks to Winston about the tenth edition of the Newspeak dictionary. O'Brien tells him he can look at only if he visits. Winston accepts O'Brien's offer.
