Oscar is significant because he was Arnold's best friend and he depended on him before he got killed by his father. "And sure, Oscar was only an adopted stray mutt, but he was the only living thing that I could depend on" (9).
Mr. P is significant because he is the one who tells Arnold to go to the Reardan. "You're going to find more and more hope the farther and farther you walk away from this sad, sad, reservation" (43).
