SETTING: This story is based on being in a school in the commons area. It is almost summer. It is in the month of May. It takes place in modern day. "The scene in Garvin High School cafeteria known as the commons is being described as grim by investigators who are working to identify the victims of a shooting spree that erupted Friday morning." Pg. 1
BIRTH & ORGIN: Val's parents fight a lot. She stays up in her room all the time alone and her brother doesn't get payed much attention. Val is the protagonist in the story and her heroic pattern will be based on how she saved a girls life during the school shooting caused by her boyfriend. Her mom and dad fight all the time and we're going to get a divorce. Her boyfriend Nick and her made a hate list and he's not a good influence for her. "Nick the murderer." Pg. 14
HEROS FLAW, HEROS STRUGGLE: Val's flaw is that her and Nick made a hate list and now she's known for that. Also, her boyfriend killed a lot of students and some teachers in the school shooting. She is worried that people will label her for that even though she didn't know anything about what he was planning. This flaw will be tested throughout the story by people having a hard time excepting her. Right now she has no friends and she is alone. "That's what the newspaper calls me- the girl who hates everyone." Pg. 51"
ANTAGONIST: Nick is the antagonist in this story. He is the one that was the shooter in the school shooting. He killed lots of students and some teachers. He also helped make the hate list with Val.Nick and Val always talked about the hate list together. They were always were talking about how much the hated the people at school and were putting new people on the hate list. They always talked about how great it would be to leave and talked about suicide. "Nick the murderer." Pg. 14
