  • Bellerophon was the son of Poseidon. Poseidon created the horse so it is only natural that Bellerophon wanted one, I guess it runs in the family.
  • meeting with the mentor
  • Bellerophon was eager to tame Pegasus , but "After many failures, he asked the seer Polyeidus for help"(Bellerophon). He was told to go to the temple of Athena.
  • crossing the threshhold
  • Bellerophon agreed in a second and was on his way, no doubt about it, in his eyes he was going to get a brand new ca- Pegasus, he was going to capture and tame Pegasus...
  • Tests
  • Upon arrival, it was nighttime. Bellerophon was tired so he went to sleep. He had a dream "...that the goddess offered him a magical, golden bridle"(Bellerophon). Athena could be considered one of Bellerophon's mentors
  • Bellerophon was able to capture and tame Pegasus. And then, out of pride, he goes to the Kingdom of Pittheus where he askes for his daughters hand in marriage, and he was approved. Before the wedding, Bellerophon accidentally killed someone and he was banished and sent to the kingdom of Proetus
  • There, Proetus' wife Stheneboea tried to seduce Bellerophon and when he declined, She Turned the story around to make Bellerophon sound bad. From there, Bellerophon was sent to Iobates who's "...solution was to ask Bellerophon to undertake a series of heroic, but deadly tasks"(Bellerophon). Bellerophon accepted and went on with pride.
