  • Gallaudet went to france to find ways of educating deaf people and brought home clerk to help teach at the school
  • The return of ASL
  • the combination of Parisian sign, signing from marthas vineyards, and other localized signs, made up what is now ASL
  • in the 1860's, alexander bell discouraged schools to teach ASL and students began being punished for using sign
  • about 100 years later, peoples views on ASL changed for the better
