Madame Loisel and Monsieur Loisel were invited to attend a ball where only the rich man go. Madame loisel was ashamed that she had no dress to wear but her husband kindly bought her one. That still was not enough for her and she wanted a necklace. Madame loisel borrowed a necklace from a long time friend named Madame Forestier
They returned home from the ball and Madame loisel realized she no longer had the necklace on. Monsieur loisel went out to look for it but returned with nothing. They bought a replica of the necklace for thirty-six thousand francs.
10 years later they finally payed off all the debts. Madame loisel ran into Madame forestier at the park one day and told her about what happened. She then told Madame loisel that the necklace was at most only worth five hundred Francs.
