  • In "The Cask of Amontillado", by Edgar Allan Poe, Montresor lures Fortunato into his catacombs. He said that he had a cask of amontillado, and wanted to make sure that it was true. Forunato then sets into the catacombs endeavored to find this wine and help his dear friend, Montresor.
  • Montresor lies upon the bones, and decides to cease his work after listening to the suffering sounds of Fortunato suffocating and dying from the niter. Here he lie, satisfied that he will no longer be mocked by him. It has been said that no one has disturbed Fortunato's body in many years.
  • During the carnival, Montresor is approached by Fortunato. He immediatley is accosted by him, and continues to laugh.  Montresor sees that it would be the perfect time to kill Fortunato. This is because since Fortunato is very drunk, he will not understand what will happen to him.
