Before life there was only vast emptiness called Ginnungagap, centered between Muspelheim, homeland of fire, and Niflheim, world of ice.
As the 2 realms neared each other fire melted ice and the water created Ymir, a Godlike Giant.
Audhumbla, a cow, was also created from the melting ice. Audhumbla's milk nourished Ymir and salty ice licks nourished her.
As Audhumbla licked the salty ice block she uncovered Buri, the first of the Gods of the Aesir tribe.
As Ymir slept his drops of sweat created a son and daughter. His less grew a third son, all were the first Jotuns or family of frost giants.
Buri married Bestla, Daughter of a Giant, and they had three sons: Odin, Vili and Ve.
The three brothers did not like that Giants outnumbered Gods so they killed Ymir.
Ymir's body was drug to the center of Ginnungagap and used to create the world. His blood became water, his flesh the land, his bones the mountains, his teeth became rocks, his hair became grass, Ymir's brain was thrown into the air and created clouds and his skull became the sky that covered the new world. The brothers threw sparks from the flames of Muspelheim at the skull and created stars.
