  • "Romeo, away, begone! The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain."
  • Scene 2
  • "'Tybalt is dead and Romeo is banishèd.' / That 'banishèd,' that one word 'banishèd,' / Hath slain ten thousand Tybalts."

  • Scene 3
  • "...turned that black word 'death' to/ 'banishment.'/This is dear mercy, and thou seest it not."
  • Scene 1 begins as Tybalt challenges Romeo to a fight, yet Mercutio steps in and gets killed by Tybalt. So Mercutio does not die in vain, Romeo fights Tybalt and kills him. Benvolio then advises Romeo to run, as he will face punishment for his bad deed.
  • Scene 4
  • In this scene, the Nurse comes back with the news that Romeo has killed Tybalt and he will be banished. Juliet is at first mad at Romeo and grieves Tybalt, but later she is devastated at Romeo's banishment. To comfort her, the Nurse plans to bring Romeo to her that night.
  • Scene 5
  • In scene 3, Friar Lawrence tells Romeo about his banishment. Romeo is ungrateful and wishes he were dead rather than banished from his love. Romeo attempts suicide at the news from the Nurse that Juliet is grieving; but, Friar Lawrence plans for him to see Juliet that night. The Friar assures Romeo that the Prince will let him back to Verona in time.
  • Paris asks Lord Capulet for the second time for Juliet's hand in marriage. Capulet believes that Juliet will listen to him. Capulet then grants Paris the fact that he will marry Juliet on Thursday.
  • "Sir Paris, I will make a desperate tender/Of my child's love. I think she will [be] ruled/ In all respects by me."
