Emperor Asoka is believed to be maybe the greatest leader there ever was.
I am here to teach you about him and what he did.
First of all, he was an unusual ruler. He was a strong military leader, but he came to hate bloodshed. After one bloody fight, he walked over the battlefield. When he saw the dead and wounded, he decided to dedicate his life to the teachings of the Buddha
Emperor Asoka did many great things for India. For example, He built hospitals for people and animals as well. He built new roads for travelers. He also put shelters and trees for shade along the roads.
He sent Buddhist teachers Throughout India and the rest of Asia. They left to teach the people that were not believers about Buddhism.
He also had laborers build stupas. Stupas are Buddhist shrines that have the shape of a dome or mound. Even though Asoka was Buddhist, he allowed Hindus to practice their religion.
Asoka made the kingdom a better place. After he died, the leaders after him were not very good. The empire grew weak. This is what I have to say about Emperor Asoka.
