Faculty Team Framework
I've been teaching for the University for 6 years. I teach my class with little or no context of what was taught before me and what is taught after me.
Often, I feel like I'm on an island. I do the best I can within the framework of the curriculum but I'm not always sure how my course fits into the courses taught before and after me.
Through the Faculty Team Framework, faculty are organized into teams based on the sequential progression of courses within a cohort. As a team, we collaborate with each other to align curriculum around common themes, attend each others' courses to provide peer coaching and course hand-offs, share assessment strategies, and build course connections across our courses.
As an individual faculty and as a Faculty Team, we participate in course and cluster retrospectives to get a better understanding of what we should stop doing, start doing, and continue doing.
And we receive support and guidance all along the way from our CCC and Lead Faculty Area Chair to plan activities and execute on the plan. We are on an island no more!
The Faculty Team Framework has given me greater confidence in my understanding of where my course fits in with the courses around me and how I can better prepare students to be successful in future courses. I feel connected to my peers because we share a common goal. I have greater voice in shaping the student experience.
