  • "Mr. Chervenick led us outside in our down jackets and tasseled Steeler hats..."(2).
  • Exposition
  • "An inch or so had fallen during the day and it was impossible to see the lines. 'Wrong, wrong, wrong!' Mr. Chervenick shouted"(2).
  • Rising Action
  • 
  • The main character of this story is Arthur. The setting is at marching band practice; calm and peaceful.
  • "Without my father to serve, we were early. My mother was not used to it. She wandered through the apartment at half speed..."(109).
  • Everyone was getting frustrated. It was the day before they're supposed to perform at the football game Saturday night. Plus it was snowing.
  • "We sat on my bed and talked. I had her present behind the stereo, and when I went to go flip the record, I palmed the box"(303). 
  • Everyone was in line then suddenly they heard a bang. It sounded like gunshots. Someone was just murdered, and turns out Arthur knew them. It was his old babysitter, Annie.
  • Climax
  • "...and then we heard what I immediately identified (from my own .22, my father's Mossberg, the nightly news from Vietnam) as gunshots"(3).
  • Arthurs parents got into a divorce and now are trying to find a place which is stressing Arthurs mom out really badly.
  • Falling Action
  • Arthur and his girlfriend, Lila, are sitting on his bed on Christmas day. Arthur got her a gift and it was a neckless, she asked him to put it on for her.  His mom came home and they were all happy.
  • Resolution
