Storyboard Text

  • Jackson won the election of 1828:
  • I support the common people, who are poor and farmers. Kinda like where I came from....hmm
  • What Jackson did:
  • Yay!! Now, white male sharecroppers can vote.
  • The spoils system
  • YAS! I can now hire whoever I want!!
  • Many people supported Jackson because he supported the common people and he defeated the British in the War of 1812.
  • Nominating conventions replace caucuses
  • Jackson changed politics. Now, white males can vote, not just white male landowners. He created the spoil system and nominating conventions replaced caucuses.
  • Tariff Debate
  • NO! HOW DARE YOU!! You are disobedient! If you don't follow the law, I WILL MAKE YOU!!
  • Yeah!! We nullify this tariff! It's not fair because there are not much factories here in the south!!
  • The spoils system allows the president to completely change the staff fr. And that's what Jackson did. He hired people who are commoners.
  • Tariff of Abomination
  • We DON"T want your tariffs so we are going to nullify it! You can't do anything about it!
  • South Carolina:
  • OH NO you're not! I'm going to FORCE YOU TO by passing the FORCE ACT! HA IN YO FACE!!
  • When caucuses were replaced by nominating conventions, more people can be nominated and more can vote. Delegates from the states chose the party's presidential candidate.
  • Basically, many southerners hated the tariff and many states wanted to nullify it, but Jackson didn't support nullification and got really angry.
  • South Carolina passed a Nullification Act which infuriated Jackson so that he passed a Force Act, which sent the military to enforce the laws. So South Carolina nullified that too.
  • FINE! Then we're going to nullify that too! YOU CAN'T STOP US!!
