  • James Madison was president from 1808-1816. He was president during the war of 1812 between the U.S. and Britain.
  • I am President James Madison. The war of 1812 has just begun! I must get going!
  • Britain would like to know if you would like to become allies with us to help defeat the Americans?
  • Sure! I have be wanting to get back at those Americans for taking our land in the Northwest Territory.
  • British soldiers marched to Washington, D.C. in August of 1814 an burned down the capitol, causing a change in appearance as we see it today.
  • Francis Scott key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner" as he was held prisoner on a ship during the battle of Fort McHenry
  • O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
  • Due to news not traveling very fast, after the Treaty of Ghent was signed declaring that the War of 1812 was over, 7000 U.S. troops met 7500 British troops in New Orleans.This was a very brutal battle but Andrew Jackson and several others defeated the British with troubles along the way. This made Jackson a big hero and helped foil British plans in America.

  • After the war of 1812, America's industry grew greatly and nationalism, as well as patriotism, were both spread through the nation. Native Americans were kickec out of the Ohio River Valley giving us the freedom to explore peacefully. America proved they were very powerful and unable to be defeated. Finally, the Federalist party was destroyed as an effect of the Hartford Convention
