  • During the French Revolution, there was a chaotic debate between the middle class and the poor. They wanted Louis XVI gone.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte literally crowns himself king in 1800s.
  • Napoleon established the Napoleonic Code, which guaranteed freedom of religion and the right to work with any occupation, rank didn't matter.
  • Napoleon invaded Russia with the Grande Armee, which had over 500,000 men. Within 6 months, the army was wiped out from temp., starvation, diseases, etc.
  • Napoleon was exiled and sent to Elba in 1814. But in 1815, he escaped and went to Paris where he gained supporters and recovered his name as Napoleon I.
  • In 1815, Napoleon was defeated at the Waterloo Battle. He was then exiled again to Saint Helena. About 5 years later, he died in St. Helena.
