  • What do you think that word is? Can you use one of your decoding strategies?
  • Kandi first tried the book; The Most Magnificent Thing and it fit great! The words worked well for her student to decode, and the text could be used for fluency strategies!
  • Yes I can! I will use the cover and slide strategy for this word!
  • Let's try a fluency strategy with our book today!
  • Kandi then tried the book; The Accidental Cheerleader. This book did not work out as great. The book was not at a good text level, so fluency strategies did not work, and the words were difficult for her student to decode.
  • Okay... So-phe and Kylie were.... at....the...mall...
  • Kandi has made progress towards her goal. Some of the texts worked great, and others did not. In the future, she wants to continue working on learning to choose better texts for her students.
  • Choosing texts is still a work-in-progress for me! I plan to continue looking at the content of the books and their reading levels in order to get better at choosing books that match my purpose!
