"It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil."
"We made it. We created it. We brought it forth from the night of the ages. We alone. Our hands. Our mind. Ours alone and only."
"We will not tell you."
Equality 7-2521 starts out already committing a crime by writing his thought and being alone in a tunnel. This creates the theme of collectivism.
Equality 7-2521 decides to work alone and discovers the light bulb or the "glass box" and decides to show the council for a trade of him being in the Home of the Scholars. Although the council don't think the same way he doesn't give up and is full of determination until the end.
Equality 7-2521 starts to see the society in a negative way, because he starts taking out that thought of how no idea thought alone is better than an idea of a group. He calls the council, "Fools! Thricedamned fools!" and he starts rebelling against them. He is a complex character because he grows and learns the wrong ideas that the society has them thinking and he will not let them control him.
