Storyboard Text

  • Introduce myself
  • Welcome to the best class you will ever be in. My name is Mrs. Uhrich and I want to spend the first few minutes today telling you about me so you can get to know me better.
  • Now that you know a little bit about me, let's get to know one another.
  • Pair Share Partner Introductions & All About Me
  • Hi Everyone, This is Raymond, he just moved here from Mexico. He doesn't have any brothers or sisters. He can speak Spanish and he is looking for new friends.
  • Classroom Management Plan
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Show me thumbs up if you understand our statement of purpose?...Good. Now it's up to us to make some rules for our class. Let's do this together.
  • RULES 1. 2. 3. 4.
  • I want my students to know who I am. I want them to know I am a person just like them. I will tell them about my family and the things my family does that make me relatable to my students. I want them to feel comfortable with me.
  • What do you already know? What do you want to know?
  • I am so excited to find out what you all already know and what it is that you'd like to know and learn. I want to make our lessons interesting and fun. I want you to WANT to learn and be as excited as me to be here with you every day.
  • Students will pair off with someone they don't know and introduce themselves to one another and then to the class making students feel welcome and valued. Teacher passes out "All About Me" for students to complete and post on bulletin board.
  • Groups
  • We want to learn about volcanoes. We like to see movies about real stuff and maybe even make our own volcano.
  • Teacher will introduce the classroom management plan and collaborate with students to come up with rules that will enforce the statement of purpose
  • Safe Zone
  • Mistakes are the building blocks of success
  • Here, the teacher will be engaging the students in their learning process by finding out what excites and motivates them. Lesson plans can be prepared to include some of these motivating factors. Students feel included in the lesson planning.
  • Teacher divides class into small groups and together students will come up with ideas of things they'd like to learn. Working in small groups right away will promote relationship building from the start.
  • Teacher reinforces that she too is human and humans make mistakes. She is letting her class know that we are not perfect and we all are constantly learning.
  • If you only go home with 1 thing today, I want you to know that it is OK to make mistakes. Sometimes, it's how we learn and I want you to know, I am always learning too, so I too make mistakes.
