This story board briefly introduces the concept of vascular versus non vascular plants.
Welcome, My name is Mrs. Lomax and I'd like to welcome you to My Science Class.
7th Grade Life Science Introduction to Plants Mrs. Lomax
Vascular vs. Non vascular Plants “What do you think plants would look like if they had no vascular tissue, that is, no xylem and phloem? Predict what you think they would look like. Refer to your model for ideas or information. Write your response in your notebooks.”
Possible Prediction: No ridges like in celery. The plant would be plain, smooth and flat, irregularly shaped.
Vascular vs Non Vascular Plants
Example of Vascular=Celery
Example of Non vascular=Moss
Very good, Thank you for your answer.
Celery is a great example of an item we use often. It is a plant and it is vascular. We can see the vascules at work when we put celery in colored water.
Vascular plants transport water and nutrients to the leaves using small tube like structures.
Thank you for your attention. In the lesson to follow will explore non vascular plants
