  • In 1901 McKinley was shot by an anarchist - fear started to rise against communists and anarchists.
  • in 1919 a series of bombing strikes occured due to the fear of communists and anarchists leaving them always in the blame.
  • Many anti-sedition bills were proposed- over seventy- but Congress was unable to enact any of them. The public criticized the bills, newspapers were seeing them as censorship if they did go into motion. Industry leaders started to see how their labor units were growing smaller due to the deportation of immigrants. In the summer of 1920, the movement was mostly over, and the nation returned its attention to other problems.
  • An attempt to blow up A. Mitchell Palmer, America's Attorney-General, lead to the campaign against the communists.
  • Thousands of innocent people were jailed or deported and many more were questioned and arrested.
  • Legislatures produced their own image for the nation against radicals leading to thirty-two states not allowing the red flag of communism.
