  • Sex is the biological and anatomical differences between male and female. There are two different kinds of sex characteristics, primary and secondary. Primary is the sex and reproductive organs, secondary is hormones which are released at puberty.
  • Gender is the socially and culturally created differences of male and female. There are many different variations in gender relations such as, race, ethnicity and social class, sexual orientation, nationality, age and disability.
  • In To Kill A Mockingbird Scout has grown up with her brother and doesn't understand how to be a "lady", she enjoys playing outside and getting dirty which was something boys were only allowed to do back then.
  • At this time in which To Kill A Mockingbird is set girls are suppose to stay in the kitchen and help their mothers. Since Scouts mom has passed away her only female influence is Calpurnia, she tries to teach scout how to be a lady but scout likes doing boy things more.
  • Gender inequalities are the socially created ideas based on biological differences. an example of this is women staying home and cooking or cleaning while the man works or women not being able to vote. They are fixed gender roles created for male domination.
  • In To Kill A Mocking bird gender inequalities are the same, women are suppose to stay home with the kids and cook or clean while the husband is at work. This was what the typical family would do in maycomb unless the women was single.
