  • In this scene the theme is, you don't need to be wealthy to be happy. Just like in the Cratchits house, how they don't get a very big income, but they are still a very great full family.

  • In this scene the two portly gentleman come to talk with scrooge while he is working. They had books and papers in their hands, coming in to discuss the poor people with Scrooge. However, Scrooge does not care what happens to the poor and he proves a point to say that they should just die, and decrease the population. Therefore, Scrooge is indirectly characterized as a cruel person.

  • "You have labored on it since. It is a ponderous chain!"

  • In this scene Scrooge is very emotional. He is sobbing as the ghost of Christmas past shows him how he is the only child not home for the holidays. Scrooge is feeling forgotten as he is brought back to some of his most depressing memories. Scrooge is thinking how know one loved him and how he was always lonely. He is nervous for what might become his fate.
  • Indirect charaterizarion
  • “Because you fell in love!... as if that were the only one thing in the world more ridiculous than a merry christmas. Good afternoon”
  • In this scene the ghost of Christmas present show Scrooge two children, who were all dirty and mistreated. Scrooge, concerned asks what they are and the spirit says they symbolize want and ignorance. The spirit continues by saying they represent what is wrong with our society .
  • In this scene every chain that Marley is wearing represents all of the bad things he has done in his past. He is explaining to scrooge that he must change his ways or else he will end up with all of the heavy chains just as Marley must hold in his spirit life now.
  • In this scene Scrooge is upset that his nephew is in love. Scrooge thinks that love is just a myth and it does not really exist. He believe that his nephew falling in love is just about as crazy as Christmas time. Scrooge is indirectly characterize as bitter person for not caring about anyone feelings but his.
