Chapter 3 Okonkwos Worst Year Katherine Morrison
The year that Okonkwo took eight hundred seed-yams from Nwakibie was the worst year in living memory. Nothing happened at it's proper time; it was either too early or too late
I wish the weather would make up it's mind
Okonkwo had sown four hundred seeds when the rains dried up. He had tried to protect them from the smouldering earth. But the drought continued and the yams were killed.
Where is the rain?!?!
Okonkwo planted what was left of his seed-yams when the rains finally returned. He would make a fresh start
Finally, thank goodness!!
Can the rain stop??????
But the year had gone mad. Rain fell as it had never fallen before. For days and nights together it poured down in violent torrents, and washed away the yam heaps.
That year was awful!!
It always surprised him that he did not sink under the load of despair. He was a fierce fighter, but that had been enough to break the heart of a lion
