  • Poseidon is the god of the sea. He was the main antagonist because Odysseus blinded his son, Polyphemus and was showing too much hubris
  • Scylla and Charybdis
  • Zeus is the king of the gods and men. He is the god of lightning and the sky. He also lives in Mount Olympus and helps guide Odysseus and Athena.
  • Hermes
  • Athena is the daughter of Zeus and is the goddess of wisdom, war, and the womanly arts. She assists Telemachus and Odysseus by talking to Zeus on how he can help them.
  • Calypso
  • Scylla is a six-headed monster that ate men off of ships. It lives across the strait from Charybdis. Charybdis is a whirlpool that has rocks around the outside that swallows ships whole.
  • Hermes is the messenger of the gods and was the son of Zeus and Maia. He helped Odysseus by helping him get off Calypso's island after being stuck there for seven years.
  • Calypso is a beautiful nymph who falls in love with Odysseus when he lands on her island. She traps him there for seven years until Hermes persuades her to let Odysseus go home.
