  • Claiming his old territory.
  • Victory for Justinian's army
  • Justinian rose to power when his uncle, Justin, died. Justin was king before he died and gave the honor to his nephew, Justin.
  • Justinian Code
  • In 533, he sent one of his best generals, Belisarius, to recover a part of Africa, known as North Africa. Belisarius succeeded this mission with ease.
  • Theodora and Justinian.
  • Justinian's army was very successful in wars. The won nearly all of Spain and Italy. They had two successful wars with Persia.
  • The Plague
  • Justinian established a set of laws which became known as the Justinian code. It said everything from slavery and property to crim and women's right and so forth.
  • Justinian fell in love with Theodora. He proposed to her and she said yes. Theodora helped Justinian with his plans.
  • In 542, a deadly plague broke out in the empire. It carried on from city to city. More than 40% of populations reduced.
