Storyboard Text

  • It is lunchtime, and Vanessa is having a delicious ice-cream.
  • Yum!
  • The mouth is an opening for the food to enter the body.
  • Finally, the undigestable waste goes into the rectum where it will soon be gotten rid of.
  • Which then leads to the small intestine. This is where most of the digestion takes place.
  • The food enters the esophagus
  • After that, the food goes into the large intestine.
  • Then the food enters the stomach.
  • Mmmm... The ice-cream was delicious. I just recently learned about the digestive system in health class. I wonder how long the process for digestion takes.
  • Students, just letting you know, digestion takes from about 24 to 36 hours. After you eat, it takes about six to eight hours for the food to pass through your small intestine.
  • Hey mom! Today, we learned about the digestive system in health. Did you know that digestion takes about 24 to 36 hours? It's so cool!
  • Whatever you say, mom.
  • That's great Vanessa! Start on your health homework. Once you finish, come downstairs and we'll make dinner together. Ok?
  • - Next, the food goes into the big intestine where the water leaves the digestive system.  It also moves the undigested waste. The undigested waste then moves to the rectum where it will be stored. The anus will get rid of the undigested waste.
  • - Then, the stomach helps break the food down, and the food turns into a liquid called chyme. This chyme then enters your small intestine where the villi (fingerlike projection) absorbs nutrients into the bloodstream.
  • - In between, the gallbladder and the pancreas do very important jobs. The gallbladder produces bile while the pancreas produces enzymes to break down simple food.
  • - The food first enters your mouth and that is where the grinding begins. After the food is turned into a thick paste, it enters your esophagus and into your stomach.
