I had a new car. It was an exciting toy, a BMW 3.3 Li.It had a top speed on 129 mph. The body was pale blue. I was driving up to London by myself. It was a lovely june day.
Ahead of me I saw a ratty faced man thumbing a lift. I brought the car to stop beside him. I always stopped for hitchhikers. He got in and I drove on.The rat faced man asked me how fast my new car could go. "129 miles per hour," I said. "I'll bet she can't," He replied. "I'll bet she can." "Prove it" he said. So I sped through the highway at 129 mph.
I heard the scream of a police siren. I pulled over behind him. The cop got off his motorcycle and came over.He took my passenger's driver's license, as well as mine, and wrote it all in his little black books. He drove away.
We drove along, slowly this time, when I looked over and realized he had my belt! He stole it right off my waist! He also had my watch, my wife's ring, some coins, a pencil, a lighter, and more.
He claimed to be a fingersmith, a fancy word for a pickpocket. Though he says he'd never nick anything from me, I was his pal.
I asked him if he was worried about the cop checking him out."How can he check me out if he doesn't know my name." He showed me that he had stolen the officer's little black book. "You're a genius!" I said. "We'd better go burn it."
