Storyboard Text

  • This quote represents the optimistic quality in Elie. He was filled with hope that his family would survive the Holocaust.
  • There could no longer be any doubt: The germans would be defeated. It was only a matter of time, months or weeks perhaps.
  • Once Elie and his family were forced by the Germans to run and walk a long journey, Elie felt like he could not go on any further. At this pint and time in the book he was used to being spoiuled and cared for.
  • I had no strength left. The journey had just begun and I already felt so weak...
  • Elie had caught himself in fear. This quote shows how he was disappointed in himself for not being able to help his father when he wanted to.
  • I stood petrified. What had happened to me? My father had been struck in front of me and I had not even blinked.
  • This quote represents the change from when Elie was first weak to now stronger. He was able to withstand the lashes of the whip, they hurt really badly but he was able to persevere and not complain. He excepted that he no longer had people to care for him.
  • I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip... Only the first really hurt...
  • This quote represents the change of optimism in Elie. He no longer thought the best before the worst. Despite the possibility of being liberated, the chances , in his mind, were not great enough.
  • Let's be evacuated with the others.
  • Previously Elie had been ashamed of being incapable of helping his father. Now Elie is ashamed of wishing he didn't have to help his father.
  • If only I didn't find [my father]. If only I were relieved of this responsibility...Instantly I felt ashamed.
