Due to war, Merlin, a wise magician, advised that baby Arthur should be raised in a secret place and none should know his true identity
After King Uther died, there was conflict over who should be king, so Merlin created a sword in a stone, meaning whoever pulls it out is king of England. Many people tried, but Arthur was the only one who could pull the sword out.
'Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone is the rightwise born king of England'
