Theodora was born in 497 CE and died in on June 28, 548 CE. When she was still young she became an actress and prostitute.
Part of her life included giving birth to at least one child out of the wedlock. She also lived off of being a wool spinner for a time in her life.
When Justinian had met Theodora she had been converted to monophysistim. Justinian later fell in love with Theodora because she was beautiful and intelligent. He then named her mistress, but got married in 525.
According to the law Justinian and Theodora couldn't get married right away. The law simply states that an actress could not get married to men that were ranked higher then them, so they had to pass special legislation.
Justinian at last took the throne in 527, Theodora was declared as Augusta. Theodora impacted the Byzantium Empire strongly. Citizens thought that she should've ruled the empire instead of Justinian. She would take part in special meetings usually reserved for the emperor.
Theodora today is remembered for how much she stood up for woman's rights and how much a leader she was without actually being the real leader.
