Boarding the Ship
Throwing the Tea Overboard
Stealing the Tea
Besides the tea , nothing else was damaged on the three ships. There was only one broken padlock. It was replaced the next day by the Patriots. Great care was taken by the Sons of Liberty to avoid the destruction of personal property.
They threw 340 chests of British tea overboard. It weighed over 92,000 pounds, which is almost 42 tons. It was 1,700,000 dollars in today's money. This was all aboard of the Beaver, Dartmouth, and Eleanor.
Nothing was stolen from the ships, not even the tea. Only one participant tried to steal some tea, but was stopped. They made sure that nothing besides the tea was destroyed. After the destruction, they cleaned the deck of the ships and anything that was out of place was put back.
