  • More than 3,000 women served as nurses during the war.
  • The women provided medical care for the wounded and sick soldiers.
  • Women had to step up and perform crucial jobs at home to support their families while their husband fought in the war.
  • For the first time, women filled a number of government jobs, due to the men in the war it left jobs open for the women to do.
  • Women were not allowed in the armed forces. 400 of them disguised themselves as men to go fight.
  • Since the women had to disguise themselves as men, they made good spies. They weren't suspected as quickly as men.
