Marco was walking down the street to his grandpa’s. He loved spending time with his grandpa, he would tell him about the good old days. Life in Mexico, his early days in America, the love of his life.
He got there right as the second boom came, the boom that brought down the house. Smoke filled the air, Marco looked around him and saw people, coughing, walking around in a state of confusion. He got up and began searching for his grandpa in the piles of debris.
10 years later...
It was these thoughts that Marco carried with him every day on his route to his grandpa’s. He was so excited to talk to his grandpa he missed the smoke coming from the apartment. Missed the siren that was too far away.
In fact it wasn’t until the sound of the first boom and the sounds of coughing from ahead that shook Marco out of his daze. He ran to the apartments, but he was too late.
But he was too late, his grandpa had died. It was at this moment that Marco realized two things: ONE, he will never hear about the good old days from his abuelo; and TWO, he will never see the world as the same again.
Marco experienced love and kindness, but no matter how much his mom tried to protect from the feelings of loss and hopelessness it would come back. It was those feelings that made him the youngest CEO at Shockwave Industries.
He soon forgot about the good old days, about Mexico. Instead he found himself learning about tax codes, important lawsuit cases, and how to make the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time.
Thought about the man who dropped his books in the street, or the lady who was crying in the elevator. Thought about how easy it would’ve been to just stop. To ask, “Are you okay?” but he didn’t.
