  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born into a wealthy family, in Hyde Park, New York January 30, 1882.
  • Political Beginings
  • Good evening my fellow americans.
  • Franklin grew up as an only child very wealthy and the money from successes in real estate by the family revolved around him. Was taught by tutors until he was 14, very unlike the common upbringing.
  • Polio diagnosis
  • After graduating from Groton (Episcopal Preparatory school) in 1900, FDR attended Harvard University. Received his degree after only 3 years. During his last year at harvard, got engaged to Eleanor roosevelt who was his 5th cousin, he married in 1905.
  • Presidency
  • Frank in the house!!!
  • In 1910, FDR was invited to run for new york senate a age 28. He ran as a democrat in a state that is know to vote republican. In 1912 he was appointed to Assistant secretary of the navy, two years later he decided to run for presidencybut was defeated.
  • While vacationing in Canada, he was diagnosed as contracted polio, he refused to believe he would be permanently paralyzed. He never got full control of his legs again though. As being a victim of Polio, he was convinced his political career was over but his wife urged him to continue.
  • I got polio!!!!! Atleast my tan look good...
  • In 1928,FDR became governor of new york. By 1930 republicans were being blamed for the depression and Franklin saw opportunity. Roosevelt proposed economic reforms known as the new deal and by 1936 the economy was showing signs of improvement.
