BLAST TO THE PAST By: Keelin Morales
Today I am traveling back 71 years to tell you a little about the cold war. The cold war started in 1947 and officially lasted until 1991. That's 44 years!
The cold war was between the United States and he Soviet Union. Although the Cold War was not physical, it is still considered a war between two countries.
You may be thinking, "how can a war not be physical?". The Cold War was slightly different. It was basically just and arms race between the two countries. Both countries thought they were bigger and stronger than the other and were trying to do everything to prove it, including threatening to bomb the other country.
The war finally ended under president Regan in 1991 when the Soviet Union fell apart but tensions didn't start easing until the late 1980s. In the late 1980s President Regan and the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev finally stopped the nuclear threats. In December of 1991 the Soviet Union dissolved and the U.S. became the only superpower.
That's all for today, thank you for joining me and learning a little bit more about The Cold War!
